Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer was named to the National League All-Star team Friday as a replacement for teammate Stephen Strasburg, who won't pitch in Tuesday's Midsummer Classic but will attend the festivities.

This marks the fourth straight season in which Scherzer has been named an All-Star. The 2013 American League All-Star starter is 9-6 with a 3.21 ERA in 18 starts this season with a Major League-leading 155 strikeouts in 120 2/3 innings.

Scherzer also has held opponents to a .195 average, posted a 0.97 WHIP and on May 11 tied a Major League record by striking out 20 Tigers, joining Roger Clemens, Kerry Wood and Randy Johnson as the only pitchers to accomplish the feat.

Strasburg, a San Diego native who attended San Diego State University, is 11-0 with a 2.71 ERA.
