Manfred to answer fans' questions in Town Hall Meeting
Commissioner to hold annual interactive chat as part of All-Star FanFest
Commissioner Rob Manfred will once again interact with fans from around the globe during his online Town Hall Meeting exclusively on MLB.com, now in its 16th year, an event that has become one of the highlights of the MLB All-Star FanFest.
This year, legendary broadcaster Dick Enberg will moderate the festivities from the San Diego Convention Center, beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET/11:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday.
Manfred, who will be participating for the second time, will make brief opening remarks and then answer e-mailed questions as well as those from fans in attendance. Fans may submit their questions for the Commissioner now to allstarchat@website.mlb.com.
A live video stream of the interactive chat session with baseball fans will be carried on MLB.com and the MLB.com At Bat 16 mobile app. A transcript of the dialogue, as well as an archived replay of the chat, also will be available across all MLB digital platforms.
Major League Baseball is enjoying another exciting season. The Cubs, attempting to win the World Series for the first time since 1908, have riveted the nation with their strong start. Another wave of rookies -- including Trevor Story with the Rockies, Corey Seager, Trayce Thompson and Kenta Maeda of the Dodgers, Dae-Ho Lee of the Mariners, Seung Hwan Oh of the Cardinals, Michael Fulmer of the Tigers, Junior Guerra of the Brewers and Steven Matz of the Mets -- is making an impact.
FanFest, which runs from Friday through the afternoon of the 2016 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard, is the world's largest baseball theme park, a five-day celebration of the game featuring interactive activities and historical exhibits. Fans have the opportunity to listen to local broadcasts, meet MLB Legends and get free autographs.
Tickets allow fans to participate in baseball training drills, test out their batting skills in the All-Star batting cages, view hometown memorabilia and artifacts from Padres history, along with a collection of official awards and trophies of Major League Baseball including the World Series, Home Run Derby and All-Star Game MVP. They can get their photo taken with the World's Largest Baseball, signed by Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Derek Jeter, Yogi Berra, Willie Mays and others. In addition to daily giveaways, fans also have the opportunity to purchase official 2016 MLB All-Star Game souvenirs in the MLB.com Shop.
More than 40 legends from MLB and Padres history are scheduled to make appearances, including Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith, Dave Winfield, Orlando Cepeda, Andre Dawson, Rollie Fingers, Ferguson Jenkins and Gaylord Perry.
Other stars who are expected to attend include Steve Garvey, Vladimir Guerrero, Trevor Hoffman, Randy Jones, Fred Lynn, Fred McGriff, Tony Oliva, Dale Murphy, Tim Raines, Gary Sheffield and Luis Tiant.
On Tuesday, July 12, watch the 2016 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard live on FOX, and during the game visit MLB.com to submit your choice for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet via the 2016 MLB All-Star Game MVP Vote. The 87th All-Star Game, in San Diego, will be televised nationally by FOX, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS, and worldwide by partners in more than 160 countries via MLB International's independent feed.
