Source: Alvarez nearing deal with Orioles

Pedro Alvarez is nearing a Minor League deal to return to the Orioles, but the contract language needs to be worked out, an industry source told MLB.com correspondent Rich Dubroff on Saturday. The club hasn't confirmed the report.

Alvarez hit 22 home runs in 376 plate appearances for the O's last season -- his first with the team after signing as a free agent in March 2016 -- but in a slow market for power hitters, he has yet to ink a new deal with a club.

In 109 games, the 30-year-old designated hitter and corner infielder had a slash line of .249/.322/.504, good for a 115 OPS+.
